Community-oriented police officers were trained on the issues of persons with disabilities
Georgian Center for Strategy and Development (GCSD) organized training for community-oriented police officers (COPs) on issues related to persons with disabilities.
The training focused on the following topics: myths and reality about people with disabilities, communication standards, etiquette and etc. The trainer also talked about the main challenges that people with disabilities face on a daily basis. As well as the involvement of COPs in the process of dealing with various situations.
Part of the training was dedicated to the services of the municipality and other state institutions, which may be beneficial for persons with disabilities living in Tbilisi. COPs were introduced to all services so that they can redirect properly. The training was conducted by Mr. Giga Sophromadze, who is the Executive Secretary of the Council of the Mayor of Tbilisi Municipality for Persons with Disabilities.
The second part of the training is scheduled in the near future, where the COPs will gain more practical skills.
Building Trust and Confidence between Police and Society is the project GCSD has been implementing since 2018. The project is financially supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia and is aimed at supporting the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to develop community-oriented policing reform initiated in 2018. Namely, GCSD has assisted the ministry to elaborate a communication strategy and action plan and utilize effective communication tools in order to increase social acceptance and improve trust in the community officers among the citizens in Tbilisi.
