Meeting with the Permanent Interagency Commission on Elaboration of the National Counterterrorism Strategy

The Georgian Center for Strategy and Development (GCSD) held the meeting with members of the Permanent Interagency Commission on Elaboration of the National Counterterrorism Strategy (CNCS).

At the meeting, Ms. Mariam Tokhadze, Head of Terrorism Research Center (GCSD-Based), presented the project - "Enhancing the capacity of Georgia in preventing violent extremism and radicalization". Ms. Tokhadze spoke about the main directions of the project and focused on the issues that are planned to strengthen the member institutions of the commission.

In the framework of the project, it is planned to gradually strengthen the capacity of the Commission through various training sessions and study visits to partner countries. The training sessions will be led by invited experts and during the study visits the participants will be able to get acquainted with the best practices of the partner countries and the lessons learned in the prevention of violent extremism and radicalization. Within the same component of the project, a guideline document will be developed for the Commission, which will summarize the best international practices for the development of a counterterrorism strategy, as well as the implementation and monitoring of its action plan.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Giorgi Goguadze Director of GCSD. Mr. Marko Soldic, a representative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Georgia and Mr. Giorgi Sabedashvili from the State Security Service also addressed the participants of the meeting with opening remarks.

The project - "Enhancing the capacity of Georgia in preventing violent extremism and radicalization" was launched this year and will continue for the next four years. The project is implemented by GCSD with the financial support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
